Little Geeks : FAQ's
What is Little Geeks?
Little Geeks is an organization which puts donated computers into the hands of needy children. Through technology we aim to give these children a chance to "reboot" their lives. Little Geeks allows people to donate their old computers, which are then refurbished. When the computer is ready for placement it is matched with a Little Geek based upon criteria provided by the donor. These include age, sex, and community in which the child lives. This allows the donor some say as to where their donation goes.
Is there an age limit for Little Geeks?
In order for a Little Geek to receive a computer they must be under the age of 18. All Little Geeks must be represented by a parent, legal guardian, or other adult over the age of 21.
Is there a waiting list for computers?
There is a high demand for systems in our community and so there is a waiting period before an eligible child receives a donated system. That period varies based on our available resources and production, however in some cases it can take several months. However, we are endeavoring to put facilities and resources in place so that waiting periods are not unreasonably prolonged.
Where is Little Geeks available?
The pilot program is currently only available in Toronto, Canada. It is our goal to expand the program across Canada, into the United States, and into additional countries. Check back soon as Little Geeks will be expanding soon.
I am interested in starting a Little Geeks chapter in my community, who can I speak to about this?
If you are interested in launching a Little Geeks program in your part of the world, please contact Lisa Shishis.
I want to donate a computer, is there a place do this?
Thank you for your donation. Without people like you this program would not be possible. In order to donate simply click on the Donor Geeks page and input the specifications of your computer. You will be issued a tracking number, which will allow you to check the status of your donation.
When I donate a computer, can I find out who it will be given to?
Due to privacy issues, the complexity of handling a large volume of systems and our limited resources, unfortunately, we can't tell you specifically who received your donation. However, on request, we may be able tell you some information about the recipient child, such as age, sex, and locality or how your donated system was used in our community outreach project.
